Remote diagnostics are powered by Intel® Core™ i5 processors

ABOUT THE PROJECT

For the millions of people living in the world's most remote villages, untreated sickness is a far too common problem. There simply aren't enough nearby medical facilities to turn to for treatment. In India alone, there are more than 645,000 remote villages. Fewer than half of them have a medical facility of any kind. "Lack of the availability of doctors and certain instruments in the villages forces villagers to either go to the urban areas to get help or forego health care if they aren't able to do that," says Anant Koppar, Chairman and CEO of a healthcare company working to solve the problem: KTwo Technology Solutions.

Now, thanks to recently developed portable health diagnostic tools and medical imaging devices—from KTwo and Intel—that treat sick people where they are, this may all soon be changing. What's more, there will be no need to build costly new roads or data infrastructure.

These small, portable systems collect patient data, like blood samples, and send images of the sample from the patient's location directly to a pathologist or physician using a wireless Internet connection.

HOW INTEL PLAYED A PART

Technology from Intel, based on the Intel® Core™ i5 processor, supports new medical practice models with remote manageability, high-resolution imaging, and quick analysis of complex data.

Intel, KTwo Technology Solutions, and others are hard at work developing new and better ways to bring virtual doctors to every village with portable, wirelessly connected medical tools. This may be just the cure that the doctor ordered.
